Workshop „Movement for actors“– Porto,1-3 July 2008

Companhia V+ Teatro @ ESMAE

The workshop “movement for actors” took place in three intensive evening sessions. For some of the participants it was the continuation of a Contact Improvisation workshop I had taught for NEC on the weekend before. With a group of actors we explored a series of movement principles, alignment exercises and partnering sequences, rooted in exercises from Contact Improvisation, Alexander Technique, Body Mind Centering and Release-based Contemporary Dance. Looking at technical patterns in and out of the floor, an understanding of one’s own, and the weight of another person, tackling the fear of being upside down and the challenges of collect alignment when in motion, where the main subjects to explore. We worked in solo, duet and group improvisations as well as set sequences for moving across the floor and some lifting exercises.

The group was very energetic and always keen for more input, a pleasure to work with. So at the end of the three days we managed to progress into quite advanced – and quite fun! – territory. All safe, all joy and so much great dancing!

I had a fantastic and really inspiring time with this group throughout both of the workshops in Porto.
